We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately on how we managed to do all of the above without WinterBoard. It’s all quite easy, but takes some time, since everything is done manually.
All you really have to do is replace the stock image files with the ones that you want. You mainly just have to browse the file system to see what image files are where, so you know what to replace.
The dock and its icons game from ‘Glass Orbs’. We renamed ‘Dock.png’ to ‘SBDockBG.png’, and replaced the default one that was in /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app. For the icons, we renamed an icon to ‘icon.png’, and put it into the appropriate stock app folder in /var/stash/Applications. For the wallpapers, we use BossPaper. It’s free. The homepage itself uses ‘PogoPlank’, a complete SpringBoard replacement that actually frees up memory an other things. It’s a little wheel that has 5 folders with a given amount of apps in.
Some regular locations of these images are:
- /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app
- /var/stash/Applications
- /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
- /System/Library/Frameworks
- /System/Library/Audio/UISounds
Just play around in those folders, and you’ll figure out what to change in no-time at all.
