*UPDATE 6-21-2010*
Apple just released the public version of iOS 4. It’s the SAME build as the GM, which can be found below. If Apple’s downloads are slow for you, try one of our mirrors.
Download iOS4/iPhone OS 4.0 GM (final) after the jump. You can download the IPSW for all devices from several different mirrors. We also have links for iTunes 9.2. Please read the ENTIRE post (TWICE) before attempting anything. Enjoy!

*How To Install*
It’s quite simple. Once you’ve downloaded and installed iTunes 9.2 as well as downloading your firmware for your device, simply ALT+Click (that’s for Mac, use Shift+click for Windows) on either the “Check for Updates” button or the “Restore” button. Check for Updates will update your device to the 4.0 GM without losing a thing, while restore erases everything first. The installation process will take between 10-15 minutes.

Its not necessary to downgrade from gm to install the public release.
It will not automatically update in itunes just by connecting it and clicking update, but if you click restore you can back up your phone, it will download the new release that came out today and then restore all your stuff after.
it actually is different than the gm release.

Are You sure it is different that gm candidate?
The build of gm candidate and version that is available today is same (8A293 for 3gs). That should mean that there is no difference in those two versions.
What differences did You see?
Today's official release removed Game Center. That's the ONLY change. The build numbers stayed the same.

I have a question, I updated my 3gs, all my songs are gone in the 'songs' tab, but they are there under 'artist' and when I buy new songs they don't go anywhere, at least anywhere that I can see. Has anyone else had this problem or know what I am doing wrong?

Yeah.Apple made Mac,so it adjusted the hardware to run iTunes specifically well(Includes Quicktime and all apple software)>But the windows method takes time to even start up the dialog box(Even with 4 GB RAM).

hi. i upgraded i ios 4 but my itunes is not upgraded to 9.2 and i dont have internet. is there any way to copy my itunes to another computer that has internet, upgrade to 9.2, and then move it back over to my computer??

I jailbreak my 3g and it worked but I cant sync with itunes 9.2 and any other version. I tried it on windows and linux. I this still an issue or what can I do to resolve this. This is my first iphone so I have no music or video backed up and would love to start
